The Kansas City Chiefs analytics team shared how they use Dash Enterprise to power real-time event operations through custom data applications. Their internal dashboards help coordinate ticketing, parking, and staffing for major events, including high-attendance games.
Three main data sources feed their app. These datasets are merged and visualized using Dash callbacks. The app front end is built with Dash open source components and styled with Dash Enterprise Design Kit for a polished, native look.
Key features of the app include:
- Real-time dashboards for parking and ticket scans with 10-minute rolling averages to smooth fluctuations
- Comparison metrics to benchmark events against past attendance, including a 3x scaled-up comparison to Sporting KC's home opener
- Interactive tools for estimating parking lot inflow based on scan rates and live attendance
Operational benefits have been significant:
- Over 50 internal users rely on the game day app, with increasing demand from other departments
- Dashboards have saved an estimated 32 person-hours per week in the event operations team alone
- Other teams have reduced manual data pulls by directly accessing these self-serve tools
Looking ahead, the team plans to extend analytics into new areas:
- Use of computer vision to monitor hospitality area occupancy and crowd flow
- Integration of AI chatbot capabilities
- Enhancements to their dynamic ticket pricing models
- Expansion of executive dashboards to improve strategic visibility
Plotly Dash Enterprise has enabled scalable, secure, and professional-grade data apps that continue to drive interest and impact across the organization. Watch the video to follow along and see the apps in action.
