The keynote for Plotly’s summer launch event, Plotly Ships, outlines the company’s mission to make data apps accessible to everyone by addressing key barriers in analytics, collaboration, and deployment. The session highlights the growing adoption of Plotly Open Source and Dash, which now see over 215 million downloads annually and are widely used across industries for machine learning and AI applications.
BI tools are limited by rigid architectures, static dashboards, and poor integration with modern AI workflows. Meanwhile, data science tools often stop short of production deployment, leaving a gap in turning analytics into operational decisions. Dash Enterprise is positioned as the solution to this last-mile challenge.
- BI tools are read-only and fail to support interactivity or AI integration
- 60% of BI projects fail due to poor user adoption
- 90% of machine learning models never reach production
- Dash Enterprise bridges this gap by enabling operational, read-write data applications
Production-grade data apps go beyond simple dashboards. They connect to live and batch data sources, support multi-user workflows, include rollback and governance capabilities, and integrate with enterprise systems. These apps are used in mission-critical contexts like clinical trials, commodity trading, and supply chain optimization.
To support this, Plotly’s latest release focuses on three areas. First is easier collaboration through App Studio, which lets users deploy apps directly from notebooks. Second is enhanced customization through theme selection and layout controls. Third is improved operational control, from infrastructure settings to user permissions.
- App Studio enables one-click deployment from notebooks to full web apps
- New theming tools allow fast UI customization without writing CSS
- Enterprise-grade controls include infrastructure-level settings and user access management
Plotly Dash Enterprise now enables data teams to move from exploratory analysis to operational action faster and more reliably, unlocking broader impact for Python-based analytics across organizations.
