Andrew Schutte, Senior Data Scientist for the Kansas City Chiefs, shares his journey from industrial engineering to leading data initiatives in the Finance, Strategy, and Analytics department. His team operates as an internal consulting unit, supporting ticketing, marketing, fan experience, and event operations with dashboards, data pipelines, and models.
Much of Andrew’s time is spent on dynamic ticket pricing and sales forecasting. He has built a real-time dashboard that connects to Ticketmaster via PostgreSQL, pulling sales data every 30 to 60 seconds. This supports budgeting, revenue tracking, and pricing strategies throughout the season.
Key capabilities in his ticketing and operations workflows include:
- A season ticket pricing model that outputs pricing recommendations based on supply and demand
- A propensity model that predicts likelihood of season ticket renewal and helps balance sales rep assignments
- A live dashboard with revenue projections and performance against sales targets
Andrew also built a game day scans dashboard used by over 50 internal staff. This app supports operational decision-making with real-time entry and parking data visualized through Dash Enterprise.
- Ticket and parking scans are updated every minute, with 10-minute rolling averages for smoothing
- Comparison lines show how current events track against historical attendance
- Tools project parking demand based on live scan rates
- Integration with HR systems enables tracking of staff clock-in rates across departments
The frontend is built using Dash Mantine Components and Dash Design Kit for styling, while the backend leverages PostgreSQL and Ticketmaster data via custom ETL. Dash Enterprise simplifies deployment and access control, with apps gated by email-level permissions.
Looking ahead, Andrew’s team plans to expand into areas like computer vision for crowd analysis, revamp dynamic pricing models, and increase executive dashboard visibility. He also reflects on his self-taught background in Python, pandas, and Dash, emphasizing the importance of building and sharing personal projects.
